Lore
Arcane ScribeChwingas are typically spirits of the terrestrial wild, but those known as astronauts have turned their masked gazes toward the infinite vacuum of Wildspace. Clad in scavenged scraps of silver-thread and helmets fashioned from polished glass or translucent geodes, these tiny elementals drift through the airless void with a grace that defies gravity. They are born from the silent awe of planar travelers, manifesting in the wake of spelljamming ships where the border between the material world and the Astral Sea grows perilously thin.
These shy entities are fascinated by the "giants" who command the stars. While a forest chwinga might mimic a squirrel, an astronaut chwinga obsessively replicates the rituals of a ship’s navigator, using stardust to draw intricate, glowing charts upon the hull. They are benign hitchhikers, often found huddled near the warmth of a spelljamming helm or hidden within a navigator's spyglass. A ship blessed by their presence may find its air supply strangely sweet or its sails catching phantom winds that do not exist in the vacuum.
Yet, their appearance can be a chilling omen. Sailors whisper of "The Silent Lookout," a chwinga seen standing motionless upon the bow of a derelict vessel drifting toward a gravity well. Adventurers might encounter one of these spirits clutching a locket belonging to a long-lost explorer, its tiny, masked form pointing toward a shimmering rift in the Astral Sea where a treasure-laden wreck awaits—or perhaps a hungry void-dweller that the chwinga has mistaken for a friend.
