Lore
Arcane ScribeDiamanda Mistriddle is a whisper among the roots of the Eldertangle, a forest gnome whose lineage is stained by a bargain struck with a fading archfey. Unlike her kin, who find joy in the play of light through leaves, Diamanda is bound to the gloaming. She is a living relic of a forgotten truce, her eyes reflecting the silvered haze of a moon that never sets. She does not age as others do; instead, she slowly fades, her form becoming as translucent as the morning mist she is named for, held together only by the weight of the secrets she was born to guard.
She dwells in the hollows of ancient, weeping willows, surrounding herself with illusions that smell of rain and old parchment. While she possesses no martial prowess or destructive magic, her presence is a riddle that stymies the unwanted. Diamanda spends her days weaving "mist-knots"—twine that, when untied, releases a single, harrowing memory from the forest's past. She is a silent witness to the woods' slow decay, speaking only in riddles that offer no comfort, for to her, truth is a jagged thing that cuts the soul.
Travelers who find themselves hopelessly lost in the Sunless Grove may encounter a small, flickering lantern held by a figure no taller than a fox. Diamanda does not lead them home; she leads them to the Precipice of Echoes, where a great fey injustice was once committed. She seeks a soul brave enough to carry one of her mist-knots back to the civilized world, warning that to untie it is to invite a curse that can only be broken by righting a wrong three centuries cold.
